Pushing for Infrastructure Investment in Northern BC

Context

In Question Period, I raised concerns about the condition of critical infrastructure in northern British Columbia, including the Taylor Bridge. This bridge is a key transportation link for our region, and it is no longer in acceptable condition. Ongoing patchwork repairs are not a long-term solution, and relying on temporary fixes puts people, goods, and industries at risk.

I pressed the government on the need to move beyond short-term maintenance and commit to real infrastructure investment that reflects the importance of the North to British Columbia’s economy and supply chains. Communities cannot plan, grow, or operate safely when essential infrastructure is allowed to deteriorate.

This issue speaks to a broader problem of deferred maintenance and underinvestment in northern infrastructure. Roads, bridges, and transportation networks are foundational to public safety, economic activity, and regional fairness.

I will continue to raise these concerns in the Legislature and push for practical, long-term infrastructure solutions.

What I Raised in the Legislature

  • Raised concerns about the Taylor Bridge

  • Questioned reliance on temporary fixes

  • Called for long-term infrastructure investment

Question Period - Taylor Bridge

In this clip, I raise concerns in Question Period about the deteriorating condition of the Taylor Bridge, a critical transportation link in northern British Columbia. I question the government’s continued reliance on temporary, patchwork repairs and stress that short-term fixes are not a substitute for real infrastructure investment.

I will continue to push for long-term, responsible infrastructure planning that protects public safety, supports economic activity, and ensures northern communities are not left behind. Reliable roads and bridges are essential for communities to grow, operate safely, and remain connected.

Why This Matters

Communities cannot grow or operate safely without reliable roads, bridges, and transportation networks.

Next Steps

I will continue pressing for infrastructure investment that reflects the importance of the North to BC’s economy.
